There are several ways you can quote a tweet on Twitter, including in a reply, a comment or in a thread. Let's go through each of these options below.

How to quote a tweet on Twitter

The first step to quoting a tweet is to scroll through the app and find a tweet and instead of retweeting it, you can choose the option to quote the tweet instead.

  1. Find a tweet on Twitter
  2. Click on the "retweet" button underneath the tweet
  3. Select the "Quote tweet" option
  4. Add your comment to the original tweet
  5. Click on the "tweet" button to share your quoted tweet

How to quote a tweet in a reply

You can quote a tweet in a reply by copying & pasting the link to a tweet in the reply box. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Find a tweet that you want to attach in a reply

  • Click on the arrow button underneath the tweet
  • Select the "copy link to tweet" option

Step 2: Go to a tweet that you'd like to leave a reply to

  • Click on the "retweet" button
  • Select the "Quote tweet" option
  • Type your reply and paste the link you copied
  • Hit the "reply" button to publish your tweet

Note: The link will not appear immediately as an embedded tweet, but once you publish it the end result will look something like in the example below:

How to quote a tweet to a thread

Sometimes one tweet is not enough, so we need to publish a thread. A thread gives you more room to share information and context than a regular tweet. Here's how to quote a tweet in a thread:

  1. Create a new tweet
  2. Write a series of tweets (called a thread)
  3. Click on "add another tweet"
  4. Paste the link to a tweet you'd like to quote to attach it
  5. Click on "share all" to publish your thread

How to quote a tweet with a picture

Twitter now supports retweets and quotes with images, videos, polls, and GIFs. To quote a tweet with a picture, you can follow the same steps for a regular text tweet that we shared above. This includes finding a tweet, copying the link, and pasting it into a new tweet, comment, or reply.

  1. Find a tweet with an image
  2. Copy the link to this tweet
  3. Create a new tweet or a reply
  4. Paste the link
  5. Click “tweet” to publish it
